Spectrasoul ‘Taken / Organiser (Ramadanman Remix)’ CRIT038LTD (Critical Music)
Hot on the heels of Critical 038, that featured the massive Break remix of ‘Alibi’, comes this strictly limited release with even more of the good stuff from the Spectrasoul boys and an awesome remix from the on-the-up Ramadanman. ‘Taken’ is a funk- ridden, stepping track that demonstrates Spectrasoul’s left of centre tendancies in fine fashion. Short, sharp snares rattle from the off and when the bass drops the kicks thud and the highly syncopated rhythm take us deep, believe. A classy cut for the heads down, early morning crew. Flip over and it’s time for something completely different as label boss Kasra looks outside the D&B bubble to enlist the talents of a certain Ramadanman who’s been making waves recently with his 140bpm excursions on labels such as Tempa, Soul Jazz and his own Hessle Audio label. Here he takes Spectrasoul’s ‘Organiser’ and turns it into an ominous hardcore inspired piece of music that’ll have dubsteppers skanking hard with it’s cool filtered synth hook, clattering breaks and the original creepy vox sample. Watch for the extra bass on the second drop too…ouch! DJ support from Fabio, Grooverider, Friction, Nu Tone, Logistics, Kasra and more.
Review:
Just as we’re all anticipating the new Ramadanman Funky gear, the dubstep hero goes and produces a D’n'B remix for Spectrasoul. So I guess we’ll have to wait for the Funky stuff but his remix of ‘Organzier’ is a heavyweight D’n'B mover, sounding like the techy output of the Offshore imprint or older Photek tracks with angular breaks and masses of subbass made for the uptempo flex. Spectrasoul’s ‘Taken’ on the flip will satisfy any fans of Instra:mental or D-Bridge with an excellent tech-steppers workout buitl clean and powerful to induce some limb flailing moments int he dance. Big twelve.
